Heat Signature Game

Heat Signature is a top down isometric action stealth game by Suspicious Developments. Take control of a mercenary/lunatic who specialises in bring criminally insane in their endeavours to complete various contracts in the most ludicrous way imaginable.

Gameplay

This game functions on the concept of making mistakes. You will take a mission, go to a location in deep space, break into a spaceship and fight your way through to accomplish whatever goal you set out. What makes in relaly interesting is that the tougher a situation you put yourself in, the more fun it is and with a great deal of enemies in every ship, you must be creative in how you want to sort them out.

Throw your gun against a wall and hope it hits in the right way to shoot someone across the hall? Yes. Shoot out a window causing a vacuum into deep space but use a gadget to swap places with someone in another room, leaving them to get sucked out instead? Yes, you can do that.

This game provides a brilliant amount of gameplay with a time stop feature that gives you as much time as you need to figure your way out of this mess. It’s like a top down version of Superhot, there’s so many options for creativity and so much time to think that you can really experiment with it all in a truly interesting way. This game isn’t about finding a solid way to complete all the missions and rinsing it. It’s about trying new things each time, experimenting and having fun.

Art

I love the look of the game; it reminds me of the original Grand Theft Auto but with much greater detail. The entire game is built with an FTL style in mind of square rooms with little differences. The skill tree is amusingly disguised as a galaxy map for you to travel through and there are a lot of other charming design choices that lend to that sleek and clean look.

Heat Signature’s simple, sprite-based art style and top-down shooter action bear a passing resemblance to Hotline Miami, and it works for many of the same retro-charming reasons. Heat Signature is a game from the developers of Gunpoint where you break into spaceships, make terrible mistakes, and think of clever ways out of them. You take a mission, fly to the target ship, sneak inside, and make clever use of your gadgets to distract, ambush and take out the crew. Recent Reviews: Very Positive. 13 moral lessons from PC games. Replay

You can die in this game and, when you do, you come back as a different character. Thankfully, the game doesn’t do away with all your progress from before. Although you may lose your loot from the mission you died in. Your progress isn’t lost.

In this procedurally generated galaxy, you can choose mission difficulty but the missions themselves are randomly generated and provide a great deal of replay value. There isn’t any multiplayer for the game but given its “time stop” ability, I don’t see how that would work for online so perhaps it’s for the best.

I had a great time with this game. There’s a nice amount of mission diversity and once you get a hang of the controls, it’s an insane mess of fun and mayhem that is excellent in controlled doses. If you like the look, give it a go and you’ll definitely have a laugh.
